Women’s Ministry Team

2006 Report

Mission Statement:  Our purpose is to minister through teaching the Word, providing fellowship, encouragement, discipleship, and opportunities to serve the body of Christ for the glory of God.                                                                                                                                                     Ephesians 4:12-16

The W.M.T. spent some time re-evaluating our ministries over the past year, with the goal of simplifying and clarifying our purpose in order to better serve women.

WMT oversees the following ministries:

Women’s Bible Studies

Purpose: to encourage and teach women through the inspired Word of God.

Many opportunities were offered over the past year for women to study together.  We are encouraged by the numbers of younger women attending.

Winter/Spring ’06:        “Women of the New Testament”, Thurs. am- Carol Walker (childcare)

“Celebration of Discipline”, Thurs. pm- Debbie Wetzig and Linda Jones

                                    “Romans”, Tues. am- Jacque Jaeger

“Living a Godly Life”, Tues. pm- Sue Morris

“The Armor of God”, Thurs. am- Kathy Preszler (childcare)

Summer:                       “Breaking Free”, Tues. pm- Sandy Johnson

Fall:                              “Breaking Free”, Thurs. pm- Renee Campbell and Kathy Preszler

“Galatians”, Fri. am- Carol Walker (childcare)

College/Military Express

Purpose: to encourage our college and military youth who are away from home.

WMT provided a continental breakfast at the church for this annual event held Feb. 4th.  About 14 women attended the time of packing boxes, writing letters, prayer, sharing, encouragement, and a devotion by Debbie Wetzig.  Approximately 32 packages were mailed.

Kitchen

Purpose: to maintain a clean, organized and well-supplied facility.

Several ladies are serving in various areas of responsibility to keep our kitchen clean and organized, and ready for use.  Darlene Madden heads this up with help from Corky Arkfeld, while Ellen Noble is in charge of supplies.  Teri Schlumpberger is the AWANA “snack lady”, Pat Morrison, Donna Key, and several others help out Sunday mornings.  Darlene has compiled a notebook with guidelines for kitchen use, which is located in the pantry.

Meals for those in Need

Purpose: to provide meals for our church family in times of need, who do not have other help available.

Jennifer Perham has a wonderful team in place.  We have been able to provide approximately 42 meals to 7 different families in difficult circumstances over the past year.  About 15 people are regularly involved in this ministry.

Potlunch and Picnics

Purpose: to provide a time of fellowship for our church family

Lesley Clark has several wonderful teams in place.  Over the past year they have helped with the monthly potlunches/picnics as well as meals for the Missions Conference, Thanksgiving and Christmas fellowships, and Easter Brunch.

Showers

Purpose: to provide encouragement and Biblical support and show the love of Christ to expectant mothers and brides and their close family and friends.

Jennifer Simas and her crew, along with other women in the church, have encouraged over a dozen women by showering them with love in various ways throughout the past year.  It is wonderful to see the younger and older women working together in this ministry.  Innovative ideas that have been introduced: sending a gift basket instead of a shower, holding a joint shower for 4 new moms.

Special Events

Purpose: to reach out to all women in a warm, inviting and appealing environment, to provide times of worship, teaching, fellowship, encouragement and spiritual growth, to promote unity and belonging and to strengthen relationships.

Women’s Connections were designed to meet these requirements on an informal and more frequent basis than our luncheons and other major events.  Our connection held March 4 at the church was a fantastic time of sharing and getting a feel for the needs of women.  From this, our monthly workshops/connections were born.  Various topics and speakers have been set for the next several months on the last Saturday of the month.  Jacque Jaeger and Teri Schlumpberger were very instrumental in getting this going.  We have had workshops on Home Schooling and Relationships.  Future topics include: Prayer, Organizational skills, People skills, and Marriage.

Younger Women’s Liaison- Jennifer Walker has been working with us to provide events, which would draw more younger women.  We are proposing to do “Make a Meal” events to promote fellowship and provide “edible encouragement” for these women.

Handwork Circle- This is being facilitated by Karen Zimbelman and Rhonda Dorris in their homes, bi-monthly on Thursday nights.  There is a short devotion and time of fellowship and teaching various skills.  Women who may feel uncomfortable in a church setting can find encouragement in this format.

Spring Luncheon- April 22 “Rise and Shine” was well attended.  The event was a pot lunch of breads and salads, with music, drama, games and a devotional talk by Renee Campbell.

WMT continues to promote women’s events outside our church, including the fall retreat with our West Coast Berean District, and the women’s retreat with Siskiyou Christian Women’s Ministry.

Other

WMT purchased 4 youth chairs, 3 round tables, and more carafes for use in the fellowship hall with donated money.

We are encouraged by the progress that has been made in providing opportunities for women to encourage each other and build relationships while growing closer to God by promoting more frequent, informal events, which provide a setting for personal sharing and accountability between women of all ages, and look forward to another fruitful year of service to women.
