Week of 8/5/25

Dear Church Family,
It's fair week! I know that means a lot of work for many families and a crazy few days. As a church family let's be praying for our families who are participating, that their conversations with friends and community members will bring the hope of Jesus Christ into those relationships.
Whether you are participating in the fair or not I pray that as you go through your week you remember what we finished the service with this last week.
2 Corinthians 5:17-21 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
As a Christ-follower you are not perfect, but you have been made perfectly clean and righteous through Jesus' loving sacrifice, therefore you can and should obey him and represent him wherever you go!

Home Enjoyment
Once again there are several things to study here, consider taking one to focus on for this week or take several days to walk through them one at a time personally or as a family. Read 1 Samuel 30

1) Chapters 27 and 29 showed David getting distracted in Philistia. How did the Lord refocus David in this chapter?
Where do you tend to get distracted from what God has said and do your own thing?
Have you ever had a difficult season that the Lord used to refocus your attention on him?
Read Romans 8:28-29. How do you see this being true for David?
How does this change your perspective of your wonderings or difficult seasons?
Stop and give thanks that the Lord is willing and able to use all circumstances to shape us to be like him.

2) What does it mean David "strengthened himself in the Lord his God"?
Read Psalm 27. How do you see David being strengthened in the Lord here?
What does that look like for you most days?

3) What was David's second step in "being strengthened in the Lord" in 1 Samuel 30:7-8? You don't have an Ephod, but what has God given to help you walk in the right direction?
Read Galatians 5:16-26.
Where do you see things of the flesh that you need to surrender to Jesus?
Read James 1:5-8. What do you personally need to ask for wisdom for?

4) There have been times in our study of 1 Samuel we've wondered where David's heart was, but the scripture didn't clearly tell us. Where can you clearly see David's heart for the Lord in his words and deeds?
Consider your words and deeds this last week. Where are you in need of looking to God's mercy and grace and responding to it.
Meditate on Colossians 3:12-17.

May God Bless You and Keep You,
Pastor Phillip
