Week of 11/23/25
Dear Church Family,
The elders and I are praying for your holidays. We ourselves know the joys and sorrows that these times bring and the weight of expectation that accompanies them. To those who experience regret or isolation, remember that Christ is near and the price that was paid to cover your regrets and bring you to himself and into his body. For all of you anticipating reunions with family and friends, may the Lord bless each conversation with purpose, care, and the joy that comes from the One who gifted us with relationships. May we make God known in what we say and do together these holidays.
Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. 1 John 3:18
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17
Home Enjoyment
Read 1 John 4:1-6
Why was this passage important for those listening?
What concerns do you think were obvious to those listening? Not so obvious?
Where did these false prophets mostly originate from? (look at 2:18-19 also)
What is the origin of these 'spirits' of 'winds' of thought and teaching?
How do you think the message of the gospel gets distorted (2 Timothy 4:3-4)
What are some of the ideas that are tickling ears today?
What does Paul tell Timothy is essential to do to deal with this issue? (2 Timothy 3:14-4:2)
How does Paul's instruction to Timothy overlap John's instruction in ch 4, vs 6?
Where have you been susceptible to popular ideas or 'winds'?
What are some unexpected places where these come from?
Read 2 Corinthians 10:5. How do we destroy arguments and lofty opinions?
What does it look like to take every thought captive to obedience to Christ?
Personal Application
Ask the Lord to help you see what 'winds' or 'spirits' you are listening to. Are you actively comparing them with His Word? As you apply what you are learning, is it having Godly fruit? Are you seeking to discern from the Holy Spirit whether what you are living out is consistent with truth?
Much thanks to Jesus for salvation and his grace and peace with us today!!
