Week of 12/28/25
Dear Church Family,
Christmas has come and gone, but the making room for Jesus to fill up your life in every moment continues! Have you gone back to work? Have you said goodbye to family or are you trying to grab a few last moments? Take the time to confess your need for Jesus to lead your thoughts each moment - For grace to do your work as unto Christ, to say and do what He wants you to say and do no matter how you feel. And give thanks - First, that Christ has made a way for you to be free of your sin and shame and accepted because of what He did for you on the cross! Second, give thanks that because of that action, the Holy Spirit is with you looking to sanctify you in every situation for your good and his glory! Third, give thanks for every gift you enjoy from Him so that you would have the joy of seeing Him in those gifts and giving God the glory He deserves!
Here is a song that really blessed me this morning and spoke to me of the powerful love of God we see described in 1 John 4.
Home Enjoyment
Read 1 John 4:7-13
Why is the surrounding context about each of these 'love' statements so important?
If you put a lesser definition of love (than found in verse 10) into these statements do they still work? Why not?
When verse 9 says 'that we might live through him', is this talking about salvation or living life daily for him? How are the two connected?
Why do you think we resist the idea of needing life from somewhere else besides ourselves?
What evidence do you see throughout God's Word that it was necessary for God's wrath to be diverted from us in order for us to have peace with him?
How does the cost of sin reflect the holiness of God?
What does vs 10 have to say about our ideas of love, the source and extent of it?
How does this definition of love change your view of God's love for you? Your view and definition of love towards others?
Look at Vs 11, take some time to write out or talk out three scenarios in your life where a right view of God's love causes you to love someone with this kind of sin-absorbing/sacrificial/suffering love.
(vs 12, 13) Do you see evidence of the Holy Spirit working in your life to produce this kind of love?
If not, do you truly believe this is how God loved you?
Are you abiding? Is that the same as reading the Bible and praying? What does abiding really look like? Read John 15:1-17 for more on abiding.
Looking forward to celebrating communion together this Sunday and worshipping our loving Savior! Pray that the Holy Spirit will help us grow in the love of Jesus and that others will see Jesus for who he is and receive him!
In Christ,
Pastor Phillip
