Week of 9/14/25
Dear Church Family,
I love you and consider it a privilege to worship Christ with you. And by worship, I mean in all of life, not just singing on Sunday mornings. To worship is to treat something as worthy of our time and devotion, so we believe and treat Jesus as worthy in every area of life. That can happen in our sadness, in our joy, in our work or play, whether with many people or alone. Today, I worship Jesus and my heart is glad to know that many of you are seeking to do the same, because through that I know Jesus will be known among us and our community. Where are you in need of worship today?
Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Two quick things...
If you haven't signed up for a life group, please pray about making this a priority.
If you are in need of help and direction in your finances, please consider the 'Do Well' finance class starting tomorrow evening, 6-7:30pm at the church.
Call the office with any questions about either, 436-2529.
Home Enjoyment
Mark Freudenberg preached on taking our anxiety to God. You can find the message here. The definition Mark gave of anxiety was - "a preoccupation with future losses that may or may not occur"
Those could be relational, spiritual, physical/health or financial, any number of things.
There are proverbs that teach us to consider what will happen and plan accordingly, but where does anxiety go from uncertainty about certain parts of our future and turn into sinful disbelief that impacts our view of God and life?
Read Philippians 4:4-9.
In verses 4-5, what makes it possible for us to 'be reasonable' and even more so to rejoice? What is our assurance of God being 'near' or 'at hand'?
Verse 6 tells us based on God's nearness we are to do what 3 things?
What do you think is the connection between thanksgiving and belief in dealing anxious situations?
What does verse 7 mean by peace with God? Guarding our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus? What are we guarded from when we believe in God's care over a situation?
Looking at verses 8-9.
What are we to replace our 'preoccupation with loss' with?
What do these things have to do with our faith and protecting us from anxiety?
Do you have a mentor in the faith who you see walking in genuine faith and peace in the midst of trouble? Imitate them, ask them about stories of God's faithfulness and how they have grown in experiencing God's peace, consider asking them to pray with you about concerns in your life.
Based on Hezekiah's prayer in 2 Kings 19:14-19 (And Philippians 4) Mark encouraged us to follow the following pattern as often as necessary to deal with anxiety.
1) Spread out our concern before the Lord.
2) Choose to praise and give thanks to God.
3) Pray for God's glory.
Do this! If you are meeting with a group consider sharing personally, but at the least take time to walk through this. God promises his peace and blessing in the midst of your concerns.
For further reading look at Matthew 6:25-34.
For those still processing the Charlie Kirk assassination I would encourage you again to press into the hope of Jesus and share all the more boldly about him. Here is a brief video similar to what I shared Sunday about our reaction to evil.
May God Bless and Keep You,
Pastor Phillip
