Week of 8/17/25 and Upcoming Events
Dear Church Family,
We have concluded our study in 1 Samuel and I would love to hear from you if the Lord taught you something new or impactful during our study. I would also encourage you to take the time to share what you've learned with your family or a friend.
Home Enjoyment
The last chapter closes with Saul's death (ch 31), while David celebrates the Lord's merciful restoration and provision (see ch 30). So much of 1 Samuel offers us a view of how differently David and Saul responded to God in the midst of difficult situations, because of their own sin, and the situations they found themselves in. David responded to God in faith that he existed, was holy, mighty, and therefore worthy of humble confession and obedience. Saul responded with defense of his own attitudes and actions even though they contradicted what God had said, rejecting both humility and obedience.
What about you and I?
The last significant struggle or difficulty you went through, did you respond to it in what scripture would say was a Godly way or justify dealing with it in your own way?
Did you ask God or a godly person what you should do?
What does dealing with struggle or difficulty look like?
The last time you experienced success or pleasure, how did God figure into your response?
Faith says God is worth all our lives: our time, all our experiences and desires. We will not get this perfect, but we are to be 'seeking first his kingdom and his righteousness', not our kingdom or our version of 'good'.
So ask yourself today, am I responding to God in faith?
How does Jesus make this so much more meaningful as we think about understanding our lives in view of who God is?
Consider some of the following Psalms if you are wondering how to respond to God when you encounter the following...
Sin - Psalm 51
Doubt - Psalm 73
Betrayal - Psalm 54
Persecution - Psalm 56
Despair - Psalm 42
Healing/Restoration - Psalm 30
Success - Psalm 145
And if you'd like a little New Testament perspective to encourage you in this way, read Philippians 3:7-11.
