Week of 5/10/26 and Kalia Kaili visit

Dear Church Family,
Grace and Peace to you in Jesus' name. Consider that for a moment; the cost of grace and the cost of peace that was willingly paid for all peoples. God did not haphazardly try to 'fix things' in the Old Testament, but deliberately made known his perfect, holy, and just character throughout history (creation, the fall, the flood, the law, the exile and return). Sin is no joke and it's not an easy fix, but there is One who can and did address our sin in fullness, who said on the cross, "it is finished." More than that there is One who would unite us with himself and the Father "...that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me." (John 17:21) That is grace and proof that Jesus has given us the peace we so desire with God. Consider that, give thanks for that, pray for your decisions today and this week based on that knowledge.

This coming Sunday Kalia Kaili will be sharing briefly about the ministry she is doing in Hawaii with university students. If you'd like to hear more about that ministry and visit with her after church there will be a potlunch in Hebrews for that purpose. Call the office with any additional questions.

Home Enjoyment
Read Titus 2:11-15
Paul just finished giving Titus some difficult instructions for the churches and is about to give more and in verse 11 he gives both the reason and motivation for obedience to such instructions.
Have you found any of the instructions in Titus thus far difficult to understand or receive?
'For' what reason and by what power are we following these instructions?
How does the fact that God's grace brings us salvation help make it available to ALL people?
Why is it so important that grace is a gift? Read Ephesians 2:8-10.
Why is it so important that God has the glory from our lives and any good works we do?

What are some ungodly actions or worldly passions that the grace of God has trained you to renounce or deny in your life? Recently? Read also Matthew 16:24 and Romans 2:4.

What are some places where seeing what Jesus has done has trained you...
To be self-controlled in what you say or do?
To seek what was just(upright) even if it cost you more energy or less benefit for yourself?
To have God and his commandments in view in your everyday decisions?

What does it look like to wait well for Jesus' return? Read Matthew 24:45-51.
Why does it sometimes seem so easy to get impatient or distracted?

Think for a moment about being a first century believer in Crete and having this letter read to you. How would the possessive pronouns (us, our)  in verses 13 and 14 encourage you in thinking about what Jesus did?
What about the description of what he did FOR US (gave himself, redeemed from lawlessness, purified, made a people for his possession), how would that sound to your ears?
Truly good works flow from a place of faith in God's favor towards us in Jesus, not earning favor with him.
What is motivating your work for Christ today? Do you think it matters? (Look at vs 15)

Why is Titus supposed to exhort and rebuke based on these truths? What would happen if he didn't?
Are you open to being exhorted and rebuked in order to have a right heart in your zeal to serve Jesus? Are you in any way tempted to disregard what Paul says here?

Personal Application
Call out to the Lord for a fresh view of his grace towards you through Jesus.
Give thanks for all the lawlessness he paid himself to redeem you from. Praise him for purifying you, such that you can be One with him!!
Renounce anything that he is telling you to renounce.
He will renew your zeal to serve and obey him and give him the glory!

In Christ,
Pastor Phillip
