Week of 8/9/26 and Potlunch
Dear Church Family,
I'm keeping it short this week. I am thankful for the feedback concerning the help that these emails have been in further study and I hope this one is a blessing as well.
There is a potluck this coming Sunday(8/16) after the morning service. Please come, bring enough food to share, and be ready to share a meal with your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Below is our Statement of Faith concerning the Holy Spirit. I encourage you to read the statement and write your thoughts or questions that come to mind. As you read the scriptures see what questions or thoughts are clarified and what remains to ask a trusted friend.
We believe the Holy Spirit is God, the third person of the Trinity. He is a person, not a force. The Holy Spirit's ministries include convicting all people of sin; calling, regenerating, indwelling, and baptizing believers into the Body of Christ at conversion; setting them apart to a holy life; and guiding, teaching, keeping, and empowering them day by day. The Holy Spirit distributes spiritual gifts to each believer according to His will for the building up of the church. We believe the primary evidence of the presence and filling of the Holy Spirit is the fruit of the Spirit rather than a miraculous sign. (John 3:5-8, 16:5-15; Acts 1:8, 5:3-4, 16:7-14; 1 Cor. 2:9-12, 3:16, 12:3-13, 13:8- 11; Gal. 5:16-25; Eph. 1:13-14, 5:18; Heb. 2:3-4)
Further Study and Resources...
What do we mean that the Holy Spirit is a person?
A person is a unique living being, with a conscience, a will, and intellect that perceives and feels things.
Read the following three verses and share or write what they tell you about the Holy Spirit and about our interaction with the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:10-13, Ephesians 4:29-32, 1 Corinthians 12:11.
What are some of the things you see the Holy Spirit doing for us in Acts 13:2 and 8:29, Romans 8:26, and John 14:26.
Why was it important for Jesus to go and the Holy Spirit to come? First, consider the physical time and space limitations of Jesus in the flesh versus the Holy Spirit. Now read John 16:5-15. Why is the Holy Spirit 'to our advantage'?
Here is a great article on how the Holy Spirit reveals to us the glory of a victorious and resurrected Savior.
Concerning the spiritual gifts... I chose videos from men I respect and trust to give a fair representation to the views I mentioned Sunday.
Video on continuationism from Gavin Ortlund.
Video on cessationism(or better called foundationalism) from Costi Hinn.
Here is a helpful video explaining how New Testament prophecy as a gift of the Spirit is different from scripture in the Old Testament.
One more very practical article that does a great job of helping us understand what makes gifts spiritual gifts?
May we grow in loving and showing Jesus Christ more and more each day by the power of the Holy Spirit.
In Christ,
Pastor Phillip
