Week of 10/11/26 and 55+ Games and Pie
Dear Church Family,
What is the significance of us gathering on a Sunday, or with one another throughout the week? Is it really necessary? If you didn't hear the message this Sunday I invite you to listen to it here. I am so eager for us as a church to understand how God loves us personally and as a church wants us to mature into knowing God and making him known to the world as we grow as disciples making disciples.
There is a progression of spiritual maturity that starts in our own hearts, extends to our family/close relationships, then to the church family, and then into the community. Hopefully we're maturing in all of those things simultaneously, but the fullness of that maturity should be known in that order. If things get out of that order it leads to disorder. Do you see this progression in your life? Do you currently see how integral God designed the local church to be to that process?
God loves his church and thought she was worth sacrificing his life for, to both save her and to sanctify her. Does your life with the church family share his enthusiasm?
May we as his children grow in loving what he loves and seeing his purposes and priorities until we see his face!
I have shared this video before, but if you have ever struggled with the imagery of the church being the bride of Christ, it is very helpful I think!
Games and Pie! - The Double Nickels (55+) are having a game day this Saturday at 12pm! You are invited to come and share/bring a pie, coffee is provided!
Berean Enjoyment
Read Hebrews 10:23-25.
Why were the original recipients of this passage in need of holding fast to their confession of hope in Jesus without wavering? What about you, why do you need to hold fast to the confession of your hope?
What things cause you to lose your grip or focus on the hope of Christ's return?
What basis is given for our holding fast in vs 23?
Who is 'he'?
What did he promise?
How do we know he's going to come through?
1 Kings 8:56, 2 Timothy 2:11-13, Romans 8:32
As a result of God's faithfulness in his promised salvation that will be fully realized in his return, what are we to do(vs 24)?
What does 'stirring up one another to love and good works' have to do with the great commission in Matthew 28:18-20?
What does 'stirring up one another to love and good works' have to do with the new commandment Jesus gave his disciples in Matthew 13:34-35?
Bring those thoughts together - What does these things have to do with getting together as a church?
What are some reasons all this is urgent?
What types of gatherings as a church accomplish these purposes?
What are some legalistic views of church attendance? Liberal?
What should be the right motivation for gathering?
Is the command in vs 25 personal or corporate?
How does not neglecting gathering play into Jesus' commandment and the great commission?
Personal Application
What are the costs that you associate with gathering with the church weekly?
What are the costs of being discipled or disicpling someone else?
Do you believe one day they will be worth it? Why?
In what ways does Jesus' sacrifice for you and the church change your view of those costs?
This is not meant to be a legalistic thing! Ask the Lord for a clear view of priorities that need to change and what steps would help you to fulfill your part in the church as a committed disciple and disciple maker.
We love because he first loved us, and love one another for the same reason! All this so we may know God's love more fully (even in sacrifice) and show the world the beauty and truth of the love of Christ!
In Christ,
Pastor Phillip
