Week of 5/4/25 and Yard Sale
Dear Church Family,
Jesus is life! Serving Him and obeying Him is a gift to us and a joy to our hearts and others, especially compared to the superficial delights of this world that lead to the death of our souls and relationships. We are a slave to sin or a slave to Jesus, one to death, the other to life. Paul spoke those words to the church in Rome, a culture awash in every pagan idea. We face the same kind of culture that is starving for a relationship with God and Godly relationships, but doesn't know where to start.
Matthew 9:37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
Home Enjoyment
Read 1 Samuel 19.
Can you recognize the 4 stories of God's delivering David?
In one sentence per event, how did God deliver David in each situation?
We get a glimpse of God's sovereign hand. Can you think of times when you clearly look back and see His physical or spiritual deliverance from a bleak situation?
Read Psalm 59:1-5.
Do you think David felt at peace when he wrote this? Did he have a full picture of what God would do? Was he scared or troubled?
What did he do with his trouble? Read verses 16-17.
If you have to boil David's action down to a word or phrase what would it be and why?
Considering Jonathan: What is remarkable about what he says to his father? What made Jonathan willing to speak well of David?
How does that correlate with Luke 9:23-26?
What differences do you see in Jonathan, Michal, and Saul's actions?
What are the root motivations you see behind their actions?
What do you find motivating your response to God and His promises in your life right now? Fear, love, doubt, obligation, proving yourself. Consider that for a moment.
Is Jesus worthy of your 'royal robes' being laid down at his feet? Why?
Extra Credit
Read Psalm 2 and meditate on the implications for Saul, Jonathan, David, and also for you and Jesus. Here is a fun song from Rich Mullins that reflects Psalm 2.
