Week of 4/13/25, Good Friday and Resurrection Day
Dear Church Family,
Another Easter is approaching and it is a wondrous thing to think about the good news of Jesus continuing to move around the globe and bring people from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light (Colossians 1:13-14). More people are worshipping Jesus right now than ever before in history even though the cost is so great, but they/we see that he is worth it (Philippians 3:7-11). We celebrate a Savior who did what seems foolish to most people and what most would see as weak or even unnecessary, and yet we humbly follow in his footsteps that the world might know what real love is (1 John 4:10,11). Let's consider that more...
Home Enjoyment
Read 1 Corinthians 1:18-31. (But we'll focus mainly on 18-25 this week.)
What is it about the cross exactly that seems so foolish to the world?
Have you ever chosen a path that looked foolish to those around you, but you knew honored the Lord?
What are some examples of principles or commands God gives us to live by that seem foolish to others?
Why would God ultimately destroy man's ideas of wisdom and discernment? (Romans 1:18-21)
We have a semblance of 'goodness' in our culture that makes us think we can be good without God. Where does this notion come up short?
Why do you think the Jews stumbled and the Greeks mocked the idea of a crucified Messiah?
Do you feel comforted or challenged by verse 25? Why?
How can we encourage our kids (and each other) to live wisely in the Lord, and 'foolish' to the culture?
Personal application
Does the way you love, spend money, talk, work, and play look more like man's wisdom or like God's 'foolishness'? Ask him where he would reveal his truth and love in such a way as to make your response a reflection of him, not a person who is ignorant of the source.
The total self-sacrificing love on the cross shows the ultimate goodness of God, God is goodness and love, he alone is the source. As you consider Holy Week and Easter, think about the events and ask the Lord to reveal his goodness to you in greater ways it would be what comes out of you! (Ephesians 3:14-21)
