Week of 5/18/25 and Potlunch

Dear Church Family,
I want to say thank you to the multiple people who reached out when they received a questionable email yesterday claiming to be me asking to help someone in hospice with gift cards. I hope everyone was alerted to the attempted scam and avoided any further hassle. Please know GCBC always seeks proper channels for giving even when it is discreet! Also, we believe the breech happened through our email account and we are working on securing that account.
Thank you also to those who were ready and willing to respond with a heart to do what seemed good when asked, my heart was encouraged by your generous and ready hearts. I am thankful that the Lord will sustain such willing and generous hearts and keep us from growing cynical as we look to Him. May we 'be wise as serpents and as innocent as doves' through the Holy Spirit who enables us.

Home Enjoyment
Read 1 Samuel 21.
What troubles, emotions, and responses do you see in David in this chapter?
At the end of the message I asked the questions from David's perspective. Have you ever wondered...
Why am I in this place, physically, spiritually? How did I get there? Am I to blame for this situation because I didn’t trust God? Or was it someone else's fault? Is it because I lost his faith?
If there is a brief story of you're wondering about these things and seeing God bring you through, take a moment to share with your small group or recount it to yourself.

Consider the 2 Psalms David wrote during the events of 1 Samuel 21. Psalm 56 was written from his experience of being detained in Gath and Psalm 34* was written when he was let go. Take one of these and answer the following questions.
What did David come to understand about God?
Where does he admit his faults or show humility?
What are some of the conclusions David comes to that are surprising when you know that story?
What does this look like for me today?

David did not do well in 1 Samuel 21, but he wrote Psalms of faith in a God who was bigger than his failures. How do you know your failures are covered? (Read Romans 8:1-2) Will you do the same as David did this week?

* It says in the title of the Psalm that David changed his behavior before Abimelech. That means 'my father is king' which is likely a royal name like 'his majesty' for Achish of Gath.

There is a potlunch this coming Sunday after church, so please bring a generous dish that you can share with the rest of the church family following the service!

With Gratitude for Jesus' Body in Grenada,
Pastor Phillip
