Week of 3/23/35, Potlunch, and Weeds
Dear Church Family,
I am sitting with my family in the Seattle airport waiting for our next flight and my heart is thankful for a full and fruitful service this last Sunday. I can't help but continue to have you prayerfully in mind, asking that the Lord would grow us in knowing Him and making Him known.
Home Enjoyment
What stood out to me most in preparing for last week was how David's faith-filled view of God made a welcome place for the Spirit to come and work in and through his life even in the midst of his failings. That is very encouraging to me. But what does that mean for us today?
While God poured on his Spirit on specific individuals in the Old Testament to reveal himself and his purposes, he has now through Jesus put his Spirit IN the hearts of ALL who believe (Ephesians 1:13-14). We who are in Christ are either welcoming the continued work of the Holy Spirit through faith-filled living or suppressing it by looking elsewhere for guidance.
With 1 Samuel 16:1-13 in mind...
Read Luke 5:17-26 and Mark 10:17-27.
How do both of these stories share a picture of 'man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart'?
How do both stories reveal the faith or lack thereof in the hearts of the individuals?
We know that David cultivated his faith by 1) serving faithfully in the mundane task of shepherding, and 2) praising the Lord regularly.
What mundane tasks has the Lord put before you to serve him and others faithfully in?
How are you cultivating praise in your life?
Consider how what David did in cultivating a heart that was responsive/had faith towards God prepared him for going out to meet Goliath.
Take time to read 1 John 4 this week and consider the connection between believing what God has said, acts of love, and the empowering of the Holy Spirit.
Extra, Extra!
We covered the difficult topic briefly of God allowing and even sending the evil spirit to afflict Saul. Here is a brief article that further touches on the idea of processing evil and how God is able to still sovereignly use it without being evil himself. If you have further questions please don't be afraid to ask myself or an elder for more resources.
Potlunch this coming Sunday!!
Please bring ample food for your family and to share with others this Sunday as we share a meal after the service.
Weeds around the church are doin the spring thing!
Please contact Tom Clark if you can help with spraying soon. 530-643-1385
