Week of 1/12/25
Dear Church Family,
I know many of you were deeply impacted by this last Sunday's message given by James Hopkins from Ukraine. I would ask you to continue to pray for their family as they share at other churches in Scott Valley this week and prepare to head back to Ukraine at the end of January. They know they are heading back to very difficult things and are so very thankful to know that they have brothers and sisters who are praying for them to be strong in all God calls them to do.
James closed with the question, 'are you done'? Meaning, are you done with yourself and ready to listen to surrender to God and what He has for your life?
There is no safer or more fulfilling place in the universe than being where God has called you to go with His purposes. There is no place more dangerous or empty than running from the Lord and His ways.
Home Enjoyment
What did you hear from James and Valya and how is it impacting you?
Read Matthew 26:24-26 and 2 Corinthians 4:5-12.
How do these passages remind you of what James was sharing?
How do these passages and James' stories make you think differently about our role as Christians in being willing to suffer in showing Jesus Christ to others?
James spent a fair bit of time talking about the importance of following wherever God is leading? What's the danger if you don't? How do you know it's Him?
We don't have the decision every month about whether to go into 'a danger zone', or do we? Are there 'battle scenes' in our community or in your life (relationships) that you are scared to go to because it's too messy, costly, or scary?
What's the comfort zone you have a hard time leaving, even for Jesus? Why?
What places do we try to 'stay safe', but not stop to listen to the Lord's direction?
Do you ever think that our love of comfort and perceived safety keeps us from experiencing more of God's wonderful works? How so?
James also mentioned trusting God with the hardships of life being a source of faith to draw on in during this war. Are you trusting God with the hardship in your life?
Read Romans 5:2-5.
Prayer
Ask the Lord to set you free from the false securities of this world and to trust Him to lead you and provide what you need wherever He takes you. Then listen and obey.
In Christ,
Pastor Phillip
