Week of 2/11/24

Dear Church Family,
I was glad for the good handful of folks who were able to make it over to Fort Jones Community Church Tuesday night to meet our new missionary James Hopkins. One of the things he related felt particularly relevant to what we are learning in Ephesians. Paul spent three chapters talking about the glory of the salvation Jesus has given us and we will spend the next several looking at how that salvation continues to 'save,' make new and impact every area of our lives. James talked about going to war-torn villages on multiple trips and the way you could tell which ones had truly received the message of Jesus. They went from being selfish to wanting to share the food they were being brought. They wouldn't have dreamed of sharing it before. As James (in the Bible) said, 'faith without works is dead'.

As we look at the attributes of the great calling we have received from Christ it's a great time to ask hard questions and be open to the work God wants to do in our lives!

Home Enjoyment
Read Ephesians 4:1-7.
Define humility. How was Jesus humble? (Philippians 2:4-8)
With who or in what situations do you struggle most with humility?
Define gentleness. How was Jesus gentle? (1 Peter 2:21-24)
Why do you think our culture struggles with the idea of gentleness?
Do you think choosing gentleness is a matter of trusting God? How so?
Define patience. How was Jesus patient? (2 Peter 3:8-9)
How does God's patience shape your view of what you find hardest to 'endure'?Define love. How did Jesus bear with us in love? (1 John 4:9-11)
What is a load that you have had trouble bearing in love?
How do these attributes shape the life of the church on a given day?
How do these attributes shape our interaction with those who do not believe?

Looking at verses 4-6, which 'one' do you wish you understood better? Look up or ask for help in looking up verses that help you better understand how Jesus IS or has provided that 'oneness'.
