Week of 8/16/26 and Men's Breakfast

Dear Church Family,
I am glad to hear your time together this last Sunday was so good. I enjoyed the time in the mountains and look forward to seeing you all this Sunday. I am thankful that Pastor John preached on what the Bible says about the Human Race. We so easily forget that we are God's image bearers which means we were made for relationship with God and unique relationships with each other. No idea, creature, or thing should or can replace that!
Hebrews 10:23-25 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
What things in your life cause you to be forgetful of loving God and longing for his appearing right now? What about loving the image-bearers he put around?
How have you encouraged a brother or sister in the last week or two to set their hope on Jesus or encouraged them in responding like him to the circumstances of their lives?

Double Nickels picnic this Thursday - call the office if you needs details 436-2529.
Men's Breakfast Saturday 8/22 at 8am - come enjoy time studying God's Word, great food and conversation with other men.

Berean Enjoyment
Below is the statement of faith section on the Human Race. If you have been around christianity awhile this won't necessarily surprise you, but I want to encourage you to take a fresh look at how shocking this may be to a culture that has tried to define humanity by themselves apart from God's Word and design. As believers we should not be surprised when our culture is shocked about what faith believes concerning mankind. We approach them then with grace that loves them as image bearers whom God wants to redeem and uncompromising truth about sin, salvation, and God's design.

As we have been doing, take the time this week to read through the statement and read the scriptures. What does it clarify for you? Where do you still have questions for further study?
Human Race
We believe that both man (Adam) and woman (Eve) were created in the image of God to enjoy a personal relationship with Him. As a result of deliberate disobedience they fell from their sinless state, and they and all their descendants became sinners. Consequently, no one can save himself or herself, and apart from the grace of God in Jesus Christ, all are condemned to eternal torment. All humans still bear the image of God and are therefore intrinsically valuable, but all humans are now broken image-bearers, in need of the restoration found in Christ. God distinguishes between the sexes, equally valuing men and women, who both reflect His image. God ordained marriage to be between one man and one woman as part of his design that some roles within the family and the church be distinctly male or female. (Gen. 1:26-27, 2:18-25, 3:1-24; Matt. 19:3-9; John 3:16-18, 36; Rom. 2:12-16, 5:12-21, 6:23, 7:14-21; Gal. 3:28; Eph. 5:22-33; Col. 3:9-10; Jas. 3:9; Rev. 20:13-15)

For further personal reflection I simply ask you to consider whether God's view of who you are as a human, made by him and for him, purchased by the blood of the Son, is what you are living? Does your identity come from a place of rejoicing in what God has done, who he has made you, and obeying Him with thanksgiving? Or trying to gain identity by some other means of pleasure or affirmation? Turn to Jesus in humility and as your humble Savior and Lord, he is worthy of your trust.
Read Hebrews 12:3-7.

May the Lord shape our view of ourselves for His glory!
In Christ,
Pastor Phillip
