Week of 11/10/24
Dear Church Family,
Among the things we prayed for was a peaceful and resolute election, I am thankful to God for that and my prayers for the outgoing president and the incoming president continue. Our calling and purpose have not changed from last week to this in knowing God and making Him known. Our community needs to see us live what we believe as much as ever, so that the grace and truth of Jesus would be seen and known bringing praise to His holy name.
Matthew 5:16 - In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
1 Peter 2:12 - Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.
Does the faith-filled action of your life point people to know a personal Savior in Jesus Christ today? Pray and act accordingly.
Home Enjoyment
Read 1 Samuel 4:1-11.
Was Israel's assessment of their first defeat accurate?
What was wrong with their solution?
Do you remember a season in your life God was trying to get your attention, but you still didn't listen?
What does listening to God look like? What does it require and what does it produce?
Read Hebrews 12:3-14 - What instructions do you see for the person who has come under God's discipline? What does it give as the key motivation for our response to God?
Moving back to the big picture of 1 Samuel 4 and application.
What are the consequences of ignoring God's discipline?
Where in our lives do we mix the sacred and profane and expect God's blessing?
OR Where are some places where you are doing the 'right thing' but for the wrong reason or with the wrong attitude and expecting God to bless it?
(For example - Angrily yelling at your kids to obey you, doing a favor for a spouse or a co-worker expecting to be compensated in some way, OR expecting God to understand a lack of devotion or obedience in your life because you pray or often attend church)
Humble yourself before God and know his loving discipline as his child, leading to greater love and thanksgiving for his sacrifice and leadership in your life.
Extra Credit: Read Joshua 7. How was this different from 1 Samuel 4? What did seeking and listening to God look like here? Are we called to personally bring judgment in the same way as Israel did? What does it look like to be ruthless toward sin and impurity? Read Matt. 18:7-9. Pray for God to expose and root one the things that keep you from loving and faithful obedience.
Men's Breakfast this Saturday 8am and yard work help 9:30am!
