Week of 10/27/24
Dear Church Family,
It is good to be back and we're thankful for all the encouraging cards that have showed your appreciation and love. They mean a lot to me(us), thank you!
We jumped right back into 1 Samuel 2 in a heavy and yet hopeful message from God to Eli and his sons. I hope that we are able to see the sobering cost of proudly rejecting God's grace and the faithfulness of God to provide a way for his people to worship him.
Home Enjoyment
Read 1 Samuel 2:27-36.
When I read this account there are two big questions that stick out to me.
First, where did Eli's family go wrong and do I ever do anything even remotely like them?
To answer that look at verses 27 and 28. What did Eli and his sons miss?
I didn't mention the superstition here this week, but do you see any place where they might have been superstitious(presumptuous) in their actions?
How often do you take stock in where the Lord has brought you from to where you are now? What is the strength of doing that?
Read 1 Timothy 1:12-17. Do you think Paul was rehearsing his wrongs, or something else?
Second, how do we understand God removing Eli's household from what He promised to Aaron?
Read Numbers 18:8-10 - What condition does God put on Aaron's offspring sharing in the offering? (If you were to read on you will see such conditions on the priesthood down through Nmbrs 18:32).
What is God ultimately desiring by putting such conditions in place?
What is God's reasoning for rejecting Eli's line from serving as priests? (Vs 30)
And yet God still graciously kept his side of the promise by Zadok, another of Aaron's descendants, becoming high priest.
But ultimately we see the fulfillment of a faithful high priest and hope from all corruption come in Jesus.
Read Hebrews 7:23-27, 4:14-16
Do any of us treat God as holy at all times or get the heart of worship right?
In what ways does Jesus meet our need as a perfect high priest?
Additional questions to ask from this text.
Parents, are there any places where you are more apt to watch your reputation than God's reputation when it comes to your parenting? Does humility factor in here?
Are you humble and thankful about God's grace in your life?
What person(s) do you desire most to honor?
Reminder of Trunk or Treat Community Outreach this Thursday evening 5:30-7pm in the parking lot with Parable Skits in the Fellowship Hall.
In Christ,
Pastor Phillip
