Week of 12/8/24
Dear Church Family,
Our family missed being with you all this last Sunday, but we were glad to see a number of faces of friends over in Scott Valley. The children of God caring for one another, loving one another sacrificially, in different parts of our county, nation, and the world is a wonderful thing to experience and participate in. We walk with one another in the struggles of life, in the pain and offenses, pointing one another to Christ by forgiving each other and valuing each other above ourselves (Ephesians 4:32, Philippians 2:3-4).
Home Enjoyment
Read John 1:1-14.
Pastor John shared about Jesus being so much more than just a babe in a manger, he is the Word of God and Light of the World!
Read John 3:18-20. We normally appreciate a well lit room, but John says that mankind rejects the light. Why?
What makes us scared of being exposed? (to God or others)
What takes away the fear of exposure? (to God or others)
Read Ephesians 5:3-14. Most people with a basic concept of God know he knows everything and nothing is hidden from him (Hebrews 4:13).
What are some reasons or motivations for wanting to live a life 'hidden' from him or without him in mind?
What does walking as a child of light look like?
We come back to the question. Why is mankind trying to hide? (Genesis 3:8)
What answer has God offered for this problem? (John 1:12)
How should that change our view of our relationship with God? Our ability to be honest with him?
What are some ways this brings change in our relationships with family? Peers?
How does it change our ability to be open and honest with others?
Extra Reading
Read Colossians 1:15-17 and Hebrews 1:1-3.
What do you see that overlaps with John 1? How does that strengthen our understanding of Jesus and the Trinity?
May we walk in the light this Christmas season!
In Jesus' Love,
Pastor Phillip
