Week of 1/4/25

Dear Church Family,
Happy New Year! May the Lord fill up our understanding of "We love because he first loved us" in the coming year. That certainly is a worthy thing to meditate on and to pray for. No matter what the year brings, to know we have the love of God to secure us and lead us is a blessing!
I was very blessed by how the Holy Spirit worked the message together with the message in the praise team's closing song this last week. Here it is if you'd like to remind yourself of the wonder and power of what we confess.

Read 1 John 4:13-21
Basic biblical translation and definition of confession - to be in agreement with
What does abiding in God have to do with confession?
What is the basis of the confession that leads to abiding? (Look back to vs 9-10)
How is confession more than telling what we have done wrong?
How does confession make room for abiding God?
Can you think of examples in your life where this has been the case?

How does our confession of Jesus lead us to have confidence instead of fear on the day of judgement?
What are some reasons our confidence waivers when we think about facing God's judgement?
How do you think having confidence in God's forgiveness and love changes how we relate to other people?
How does perfect love cast out fear in your relationship with God?
With others?
Why do we love? (vs 19)
How is this true historically? How is it true in your relationships?

What good does it do us to hear that we are lying if we are not showing love to our brothers and sisters in Christ?
What do we do when we see this is the case? (Read 1 John 1:8-2:1)

As always - if you wonder how to accomplish this kind of love and abiding, how does looking at Jesus' life and action give you a picture of how to move forward in action?

For Further Study - Read 2 Peter 1:3-10. How do each of these attributes give a picture of abiding with God? Knowing and making known his love?

May each of us grow in this love for the glory of God in Grenada and to the ends of the earth!

In Christ,
Pastor Phillip
